Positive Behaviour at Wyndham
The government has conducted a large National Behaviour Survey across the 2022/23 academic year, gathering data from school staff and parents/pupils on behaviour issues and school approaches. The results were published in April 2024.
There is an emphasis on developing a whole-school culture and consistent approach to behaviour management, with tools provided to help schools audit their current policies and practises.
Personalised approaches like daily report cards are highlighted as having evidence of improving behaviour for disruptive pupils, according to an Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) report.
Relational restorative practises are approaches that schools can implement to build positive relationships, promote a sense of community, and address disciplinary issues in a more effective way than traditional punishments.
The focus is on understanding behaviour as communication of needs, promoting accountability, and repairing relationships through restorative conversations rather than punitive measures.
Relational approaches influence the overall school culture, ethos, teaching practises and targeted support for pupils’ social-emotional learning needs.
Benefits cited include reducing behaviour incidents, improving school climate for learning, and fostering positive relationships among pupils and between pupils and staff.
